BPW UK Public Speaking Competition
for Young People
BPW UK is passionate about our Public Speaking Competition which takes place every year. It is open to young people who are at least 15 and under 18 and provides skills in research, analysis, teamwork and public speaking. Teachers also tell us that it enhances confidence and self-esteem.
Local heats are usually in November/January and area finals January/February.
Teams from each area compete in the BPW UK Inter-Regional Public Speaking Championship in March/April which takes place alongside the BPW Annual Conference and AGM.
A summary of the competition is as follows...
- The format is a public meeting which lasts 15 minutes
- Open to girls and boys
- Teams of three – Chairman, Speaker and Expressor of Thanks
- The Speaker speaks with another team
- The choice of the subject is the team’s choice but must concern current public affairs of national or international interest
- Taking part in the competition is accepted as part of The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
